Tips for rookie teachers

September 29, 2016

The first month of school is under your belt and as a new teacher, you’re likely finding your groove. We’ve got a few tips to help you fire up your pension while you’re getting your career going.

  1. Connect with us, and your colleagues, on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest. Keep up-to-date on your plan, and glean tips from fellow teachers.

  2. Sign up for an Ontario Teachers’ online account. Call us (1-800-668-0105) and we’ll set you up. You’ll find a ton of information about maximizing credit through transfers or buybacks. You can also make sure your service record is up-to-date.

  3. Speaking of keeping track of your service – if you’re an occasional teacher, download Classtime, our app, to keep track of where and when you work, as well as when you get paid.

  4. Once you have a year of service, you’ll be able to use the pension calculator in your online account. It’s never too early to start exploring different retirement scenarios and getting a sense of the role your pension will play in your retirement.
