Celebrating a year of social media
July 04, 2013
On July 7, 2012, we launched facebook.com/myOTPP. Over the course of the year, we built a community of more than 2,500 members. Belonging to our virtual community allows you to keep up to date with plan news, build your pension knowledge, and interact with fellow educators.
What does this online community look like? Here's a snapshot: The bulk of facebook.com/myOTPP members live in Canada, but some reside in the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Thailand, Italy, and beyond. Overwhelmingly, participants on the page are female (roughly 70%). Almost 40% of those women are over the age of 45.
Let's take a look at some of the posts from the past year that generated the most buzz:
Fun Fact Friday!
On June 7, 2013, we shared the fact that more than 2,500 teachers were ending their careers and retiring at the end of the school year. We asked you to like the post to congratulate them. More than 140 offered a "thumbs up" and some offered kind words of congrats.
Sometimes the posts that resonate the most have nothing to do with the pension plan. Our second most popular post was a simple photo of a poppy, with the words, "We remember," on Nov. 9, 2012. While 42 people liked the post, roughly 30 people took the time to share it with their own friends.
Our members have pension plan pride! We announced on June 27, 2013 that CEM Benchmarking Inc, ranked us #1 in North America and the world, for the second consecutive year. More than 70 members liked the post to show they're proud to be a member of the plan.
Our Tuesday morning quizzes are a popular feature of our page. In particular, the Aug. 1, 2012 quiz proved to be our most popular pop quiz. We asked if the statement, "You should always name your eligible spouse as a beneficiary," was true or false. Of the 26 responses, all but one got the correct answer: false.
