Supplementary Medical Coverage
Who should I contact for supplementary medical coverage when I retire?
Three independent plans provide supplementary medical coverage for members of Ontario Teachers'. One is offered by Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO/ERO) through Johnson Inc. and two are offered by the Ontario Teachers' Insurance Plan (OTIP). Premiums for these plans can be deducted from your pension payment.
Contact them directly for information on available options:
- ARM Retiree Health Insurance Plan
- The Retired Teachers of Ontario/Les enseignantes et enseignants retraités de l'Ontario (RTO/ERO)
- OTIP/RAEO (Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan/Regime d'assurance des enseignantes et des enseignants de l'Ontario)
Why doesn't Ontario Teachers' provide medical and dental benefits for retired teachers?
Some employers provide health benefits to their retired employees. Ontario Teachers' is not the former employer of teachers and cannot provide health benefits in the same way.
Ontario Teachers' can provide only the benefits permitted for registered pension plans under the Income Tax Act. Health benefits are not permitted.
