LinkedIn Account: External Terms of Use

We're interested in what you have to say to us on LinkedIn. We're also happy to help you find the information you're looking for and will do what we can to answer your questions.

OTPP generally monitors its LinkedIn account during regular business hours. We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium; however, our moderation capabilities are not. We may not see every inappropriate comment right away (if at all), and we place trust in the maturity of our community to avoid and ignore personal attacks and negative speech, and to participate politely and constructively.

The views of users commenting on our LinkedIn account do not necessarily represent the views of OTPP. OTPP is not responsible for any online information that is not posted by an authorized OTPP representative. Information on OTPP's LinkedIn account is made available to you for your independent use and is not intended to provide you with benefits, insurance, retirement or investment advice. We cannot and do not guarantee the applicability or accuracy of the information found on the OTPP LinkedIn account, with regard to your individual circumstances.

OTPP is not responsible for any direct or indirect damages relating to errors, omissions or discrepancies on its LinkedIn account.

Our full terms and posting guidelines are here. By accessing or using  OTPP's LinkedIn account, and/or by engaging with OTPP through its LinkedIn account, you agree to be subject to these terms of use and the full terms and posting guidelines.

Among other things, OTPP:

  1. may review posts and messages, but may not reply to and/or moderate all discussion on its LinkedIn account. Being followed by us does not imply endorsement of any kind.  

  2. may occasionally post third party content that we deem of interest to our audience. These posts should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the originator, the content of the post or of any organization the post refers to.

  3. reserves the right to block users, or delete, edit or report their posts and messages, for any reason, including posts and messages that:

  • express racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting, or life-threatening messages;

  • are aggressive, coarse, violent, obscene, or pornographic in tone;

  • are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or otherwise abusive;

  • appear to not be sent by the named author;

  • contain personal or confidential information;

  • are put forward for advertising purposes;

  •  are written in a language other than English or French;

  • are unintelligible, or otherwise inconsistent with the purposes of OTPP's LinkedIn account;

  • are repetitive or spamming of threads;

  • link to non-OTPP sites;

  • to our knowledge, infringe on intellectual property rights; or

  • are otherwise illegal or violate OTPP's policies.

Posts or messages that relate to possible criminal activity will be forwarded to law enforcement authorities.

Disagreements and constructive arguments are welcome as part of the discussions; however, inappropriate, abusive, discriminatory, offensive or unlawful comments are prohibited and may be deleted.

Use or reliance on content or materials posted via OTPP's LinkedIn account or obtained by you through OTPP's LinkedIn account is at your own risk. OTPP does not represent or warrant that its LinkedIn account will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected or that the website is free of viruses or other harmful code, nor does OTPP represent or warrant the correctness, accuracy, timeliness, reliability or appropriateness of the content contained in its LinkedIn account or that the content is free of viruses or other harmful code.

You accept responsibility for the content posted on the OTPP's LinkedIn account, including that the content does not infringe any third-party rights, including their intellectual property or privacy rights.

OTPP and its employees, agents and contractors will not be responsible or liable for any damages, whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or other damages in any way arising out of or in connection with its LinkedIn account, including its content.


OTPP's LinkedIn account is publicly accessible. Your posts may be publicly visible, depending on your privacy settings. OTPP is not responsible for any personal or confidential information posted by members of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan or other individuals using its social media sites, including LinkedIn. OTPP may remove posts that contain personal or confidential information, but OTPP is neither responsible for doing so, nor is it responsible for any damages caused by any delay or failure to remove such posts. Individuals who post personal or confidential information on OTPP's social media sites, including LinkedIn, do so at their own risk.

To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, OTPP suggests that you limit or not include any personal information, including  phone numbers, email addresses or other sensitive information, on your LinkedIn account  or any content you post on LinkedIn.

Any content you post to OTPP's LinkedIn account is not confidential and may be used and reproduced by OTPP without compensation or acknowledgement to you. By posting content on OTPP's LinkedIn account, you are consenting to OTPP's collection, use and retention of the information by OTPP, for any purpose, including to respond to posts and messages, and to operate, maintain and improve its social media services.


OTPP may link to third party websites (e.g., websites other than OTPP websites) from OTPP's social media sites, including LinkedIn.  If you use one of these links, you will leave the OTPP's social media sites (such as its LinkedIn account) and proceed to the selected website, located on another server.  By providing links to other websites for your convenience, OTPP does not imply endorsement of a website's sponsor, nor does OTPP imply endorsement of any product, service or activity offered on the websites or by any advertiser on the sites.

External Social Media Platforms

The external social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn) on which the OTPP's social media sites are located have their own guidelines and policies with respect to terms of use and privacy, including information collection, use and retention policies. When using OTPP's social media sites, you should exercise caution by carefully reviewing your privacy and account settings for the external social media platform.
