Hong Kong Team

Ben Chan

  • Regional Managing Director (Asia)

Ben leads investment activities in the Asia-Pacific region for Ontario Teachers'.  He has almost three decades of international experience in public and private equities, investment banking and accounting.

Ben joins Ontario Teachers' from Khazanah Nasional Berhad where he spent 12 years in progressively senior roles. He was most recently Co-Head of Investments and led investment activities in China, Vietnam and the Philippines. Ben's investment experience covers a broad range of industries and sectors that have been representative of the growth trajectory of the relevant markets.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales and is a Chartered Accountant. Ben has also completed the Global Leadership Development Program at the International Centre For Leadership In Finance. 

Raju Ruparelia

  • Managing Director, Direct Investing, Private Capital (Hong Kong)

Raju Ruparelia leads Ontario Teachers’ direct private equity investing activities across Asia-Pacific. Raju joined Ontario Teachers’ in 2008, was a senior founding member of its Hong Kong office in 2013 and has nearly two decades of combined experience in private equity and corporate finance. He has worked in both Toronto and London for the organization and has been involved in a number of its direct investments, including the acquisitions of Spandana Sphoorty Financial Ltd., INC Research, Coway, DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield. Raju currently sits on the board of Cushman & Wakefield.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers’, Raju worked in investment banking at Credit Suisse in New York, in investments at Cadillac Fairview (Ontario Teachers’ wholly owned real estate subsidiary) and in the corporate finance group at Deloitte.

Raju holds a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Dan Kiang

  • Managing Director, High Conviction Equities, Asia Pacific

Dan Kiang joined Ontario Teachers' Hong Kong office in 2014 and is focused on direct equities investments in Asia.

Dan started his career as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in New York and has nearly two decades of experience investing in Asia. Before joining Ontario Teachers', he was Managing Director at Mount Kellett Asia. Prior to that, he was a Director at Merrill Lynch Asia where he was responsible for its corporate principal investments in the Greater China region.

Dan received a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude in Economics, with a Certificate in East Asian Studies, from Princeton University.

Amit Sobti

  • Director (Hong Kong)

Amit Sobti joined the Private Capital division of Ontario Teachers' in 2016 and is part of the senior team responsible for direct and co-investing activities across the Asia-Pacific region. Amit sits on the board of Spandana Sphoorty.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Amit had more than 15 years of experience in private equity and investment banking, most recently as a principal at Unitas Capital in Hong Kong. He was previously a principal in the healthcare group at Warburg Pincus in New York, prior to which he worked at Rhone Capital and in the M&A group at Merrill Lynch.

Amit holds a dual A.B. (magna cum laude) in Business Economics and Computer Science from Brown University.

Kelvin Yu

  • Director, Teacher’s Innovation Platform

Kelvin Yu is based in Hong Kong and is part of the senior team leading the Teachers’ Innovation Platform (TIP) in the Asia-Pacific region. Kelvin has more than 20 years of extensive experience in venture capital, private equity and investment banking.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers’, Kelvin was an Executive President with Fosun Group, leading the setup of the “New Retail” strategic investment team within the organization, and has held senior positions at private equity, venture and growth capital funds including Partners Group (where he was a Managing Director and Head of China), Sequoia Capital, Capital Today, and Barings Private Equity. He has led both venture and growth stage investments in various sectors including New Retail, Consumer, Logistics, Financial Services, Automotive and the TMT/Internet space.

Kelvin holds a BBA (Honors) from the National University of Singapore as well as the CFA and CPA (Aus) designations.

Jungho Cho

  • Senior Principal (Hong Kong)

Jungho Cho joined Ontario Teachers' in 2015 and is responsible for direct and co-investing activities in Asia.

Prior to Ontario Teachers', Jungho was with the International Finance Corporation, TVG Capital Partners, and Merrill Lynch. He has more than 16 years of investment experience across private equity, public equities, and project finance, as well as in investment banking where he began his career.

Jungho holds a BA in Economics from Yale University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Angel Kong

  • Senior Principal (Hong Kong)

Angel Kong joined Ontario Teachers’ Hong Kong office in 2019 and is part of the senior team responsible for direct and co-investing activities across Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers’, Angel had more than 14 years of experience in private equity and management consulting, most recently as a director at EQT Partners in Hong Kong covering buyout and co-control investments in Greater China. She was previously a management consultant at Oliver Wyman.

Angel holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from California Institute of Technology and a M.Sc. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

Jonathan Sue

  • Senior Principal (Hong Kong)

Jonathan Sue joined Ontario Teachers' in 2012 and has been involved with a number of investments across the financial services and healthcare sectors, including Kanetix Ltd., APCO Holdings, First American Payment Systems, BroadStreet Partners, Canada Guaranty Mortgage Insurance Company and Heartland Dental Care. Jonathan is currently on assignment to Ontario Teachers' Hong Kong office and is focused on direct and co-investment opportunities in Asia.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Jonathan worked in the transaction services group at Deloitte & Touche.

He is a Chartered Accountant (2010 CICA Honour Roll), a CFA charterholder, and holds a Bachelor of Accounting & Financial Management (Honours) and a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo.

Peixi Gu

  • Principal (Hong Kong)

Peixi joined Ontario Teachers' Hong Kong office in 2015 and is focused on fund as well as direct investment opportunities across Asia.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Peixi was an investment professional with Goldman Sachs Principal Investment Area, where she focused on private equity investments across Asia. Before that, Peixi worked in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong.

Peixi holds dual B.Sc. degrees in Economics and Biological Sciences, as well as a Master of Law degree from Peking University.

Kelvin Lin

  • Principal (Hong Kong)

Kelvin Lin joined Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan 2012 and is currently part of the High Conviction Equities team. Prior to High Conviction Equities, Kelvin worked in the Infrastructure group and on the Relationship Investing team.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Kelvin worked in Equity Research at Stifel Nicolaus.

Kelvin holds an HBA degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and is a CFA charterholder.

Geoffrey Liu

  • Principal (Hong Kong)

Geoffrey Liu joined Ontario Teachers' Hong Kong office in 2016 and is focused on direct venture capital and growth equity investments as a member of the Teachers’ Innovation Platform (TIP) team in the Asia-Pacific region. Geoffrey has also worked in our Equities team, conducting direct equity investments across pre-IPO and public market opportunities in Asia.

Geoffrey started his career in Goldman Sach’s investment banking division in New York. Before joining Ontario Teachers', he was an investment analyst at a hedge fund focused on event-driven investing in Hong Kong.

Geoffrey holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics (summa cum laude) degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Ronnie Tang

  • Principal (Hong Kong)

Ronnie Tang joined Ontario Teachers' in 2015 and is focused on direct and co-investment opportunities across Asia. He has been involved in a number of investments including Spandana Sphoorty, The Pure Group, Baosteel Gases and Dream Cruises.

Prior to Ontario Teachers', Ronnie was an investment professional with Unitas Capital based in Hong Kong and a management consultant at McKinsey & Company based in Shanghai.

Ronnie holds an A.B. in Economics from the University of Chicago.

Freddie Cai

  • Investment Associate (Hong Kong)

Freddie Cai joined the Hong Kong office in 2016 and is focused on direct equity investment opportunities across Asia.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Freddie worked at the investment banking division of Barclays in Hong Kong.

Freddie holds a Master of Accounting degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from Renmin University of China.

Andrew Chung

  • Investment Associate (Hong Kong)

Andrew Chung joined Ontario Teachers’ in 2019 and is focused on direct and co-investment opportunities across Asia.

Before joining Ontario Teachers’, Andrew worked as a research associate covering technology at Morgan Stanley. Prior to that, he worked in the M&A investment banking division of Morgan Stanley Hong Kong.

Andrew holds an Honors Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.

Nayan Goyal

  • Investment Associate (Hong Kong)

Nayan Goyal joined Ontario Teachers’ Private Capital division in 2019, focusing on direct and co-investments across the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers’, Nayan worked in the Investment Banking Division of Citi Bank focusing on M&A deals in India across multiple sectors.

Nayan earned his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and received the Institute Rank Silver Medal from “Honorable President of India” for extraordinary academic performance. Before that he graduated from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani with a BE (Honors) in Computer Science. 

Daniel Luo

  • Investment Associate (Hong Kong)

Daniel Luo joined Ontario Teachers' Hong Kong office in 2018 and is focused on direct and co-investment opportunities across Asia.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Daniel worked at the investment banking division of Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Melbourne and completed an exchange program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
