Romeo Leemrijse leads Ontario Teachers' private equity transactions in the industrial products, energy & power sectors. He joined the organization in 2006 and was most recently Director, Consumer & Retail for Private Capital.

Since joining Ontario Teachers' Romeo has worked on a number of significant transactions, including PODS, GFL Environmental, GNC, Serta Simmons Bedding, Shearers, Dematic, CSC, Aethon and Infiltrator. He currently sits on the boards of PODS, Serta Simmons Bedding, Hawkwood, EdgeMarc, Aspenleaf and CSC.

Romeo was previously a principal at EdgeStone Capital Partners, where he was responsible for sourcing and executing investments, as well as monitoring and providing strategic guidance to portfolio companies.

Romeo is a CFA charterholder and graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Blake Sumler

  • Managing Director, Industrials

Blake joined Ontario Teachers' in 2013 and has worked in private equity for more than 15 years. Previously, Blake was a Senior Vice President at Callisto Capital, a mid-market Toronto-based private equity firm focusing on buyouts and growth capital investments in Canada. Blake's varied work experience includes hedge fund investing at a Toronto-based firm, equity research at RBC Dominion Securities and debt syndication at Newcourt Capital.

At Ontario Teachers', Blake leads the Diversified Industrials and Business Services Group. He currently sits on the boards of PODS and GFL Environmental Inc.

Blake is a CPA and a CFA charterholder. He holds a BA (Chartered Accounting) and a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Ashfaq Qadri

  • Senior Principal

Ashfaq Qadri joined Ontario Teachers' in 2016 with more than a decade of experience in private equity and investment banking. His role includes execution and portfolio management responsibilities for direct private equity investments in the industrials and energy sectors. Ashfaq currently serves on the boards of various Ontario Teachers' portfolio companies, including The AZEK Company, Trivium Packaging, Hawkwood Energy and Kanata Energy Group.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Ashfaq was a Vice President at Morgan Stanley Private Equity, with roles based in both New York and London. He previously also worked in Morgan Stanley's Investment Banking division in New York.

Ashfaq received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College and graduated with a double major in Computer Science and Economics.

Robin Shah

  • Senior Principal

Robin Shah joined Ontario Teachers' in 2012 and is focused on direct private equity investments in the industrials and business services sector. Since joining the organization he has worked on a number of investments, including Aurora Plastics, Infiltrator Water Technologies, Mauser Packaging Solutions, Cole Parmer, CSC Serviceworks, EXAL Group, and Alliance Laundry. Robin serves on the boards of Aurora Plastics and Mauser Packaging Solutions.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers, Robin was a private equity associate at Birch Hill Equity Partners and an M&A analyst at Scotia Capital. He has also worked in the corporate strategy group of Rogers Communications and digital media solutions group of Expedia.

Robin holds a BBA (with distinction) from the Schulich School of Business at York University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Maxim Tcherner

  • Senior Principal

Maxim Tcherner joined Ontario Teachers' in 2014 and has been involved in a number of transactions including the acquisition of CSC ServiceWorks, Infiltrator Water Technologies, Mauser Packaging Solutions, GFL Environmental, and the sale of Alliance Laundry. Maxim is also involved in Ontario Teachers’ investment in Trivium Packaging and serves as a board member of CSC ServiceWorks.

Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Maxim worked in investment banking at Credit Suisse providing M&A advisory and financing services across a number of industries.

Maxim holds an Honours Business Administration degree (with Distinction) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University.

Jules Koifman

Jules Koifman joined Ontario Teachers' in 2015. Previously, he was an Investment Banking Analyst at RBC Capital Markets where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and follow-on capital raises.

Jules holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University and is a CFA charterholder.

Adam Libertini

Adam Libertini joined Private Capital in 2020. Prior to Ontario Teachers', Adam worked in investment banking at Houlihan Lokey and in private equity at Norwest Equity Partners.

Adam holds an Honours Business Administration degree (with Distinction) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and is pursuing his Masters of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Shirley Lin

Shirley Lin joined Private Capital in 2018. Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Shirley worked in investment banking at Scotia Capital and in the corporate finance and assurance groups at Deloitte. 

Shirley is a CPA, CA and a CFA charterholder. She holds a BBA (with distinction) from the Schulich School of Business at York University. 

Sophia Kim

Sophia Kim joined Private Capital in 2018. Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', she was an associate at HSBC Global Banking & Markets and before that she worked in a private equity role at Highland Creek Partners.

Sophia is a CFA charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (with high distinction) from the University of Toronto.

Alex Stretton

Alex Stretton joined Private Capital in 2019. Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Alex worked in investment banking at Macquarie Capital and in private equity at Headwater Equity Partners.
