Progress update on Bill 124 and collective agreement adjustments

Looking for other Bill 124 and new collective agreement stories?

> Learn how to estimate your increased salary

We've been working on retroactive salary adjustments for a little over a year now. The administration of these retroactive salary increases involves significant effort, representing more than five times the volume of updates we typically process each year. There were over 160,000 working members and 22,000 pensions impacted by the changes.

Minimizing the impact to retired members

Our goal was to complete the work for Bill 124 for retired members by the end of summer 2025. We prioritized retired and retiring members to minimize any impact to pension payments and/or retirement planning. We’re pleased to report that we’ve completed Bill 124 retroactive salary adjustments for retired members.

However, our work continues for retroactive salary adjustments related to collective agreements. Due to the volume of adjustments, it’ll take some time.  We’re aiming to complete this work by the end of summer 2026.

Rest assured, we’ll adjust eligible pensions retroactively, with interest. We thank you for your continued patience as we work through the remaining adjustments.

What to expect next

Still working?

There's nothing you need to do. We'll update your service record once we receive and process the required information. If you’re not planning on retiring soon, your service record will reflect your adjusted salary by the time you decide to retire from teaching and start your pension.

Planning to retire or already applied?

Whether you’re thinking about retiring or recently submitted your pension application, we’ve got you covered! You can apply for your pension as normal. If applicable, we’ll adjust your pension once we receive and process the required information.

Once your status is marked complete, it may take up to two months to receive your retroactive payment. While we'll do our best to pay you as quickly as we can, some of you may have to wait a little longer once we've completed your adjustments due to complexity and the volume of adjustments. You’ll receive a notification when your pension amount changes.
