The power of community

July 17, 2014

More than 5,200 members participated in our Facebook contest, but there could only be three winners.  Congratulations to Kurt Watson, Donna Friedbacher and Maureen Lindsey who each received a $100 gift card redeemable at any Cadillac Fairview shopping mall.

We called and you answered. Thank you to the more than 5,000 members who participated in our Mission 5,000 Facebook contest. You helped us surpass our goal as we look to further connect with our members, both working and retired.

In addition to liking us, you told us what you'd like to see more of:

  • tips and facts about the history of the plan,
  • news and information that would be helpful to teachers still contributing to the plan, and
  • facts about CPP and old age security to make more informed choices about your retirement.

You also want a chance to connect with other members.

What's next?

With more than 9,100 strong, we want to further bring our members together while continuing to provide timely and relevant information about the plan. The most special thing about our Facebook community is that it brings all different kinds of teachers together.

Whether you are just starting out teaching occasionally, or had a long career and recently retired, you are all teachers. Each one of you have had a very important job and likely had a significant impact on many students throughout your careers.

A great example

We recently shared a story about Dorothy Adair, one of our 100-year-old pensioners. Mrs. Adair has been receiving a pension for more than 40 years.  We received an overwhelming response from our members, remembering Mrs. Adair as their teacher and wanting to get in touch to thank her all these years later.

We want to hear more Dorothy Adair stories. For example, maybe you are newly retired and decided to open up a small business. We want to share our members' personal stories to bring our community of teachers closer together.

Facebook is just one of many innovative ways we are connecting with you. Stay tuned for more news in the fall on ways we are making it easier for you to stay informed and make the right decisions about your pension.
