LinkedIn Account: External Terms of Use

At Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan [Board] (“Ontario Teachers’”, “we,” “us” or “our”), we're interested in what you have to say to us on LinkedIn. We're also happy to help you find the information you're looking for and will do what we can to answer your questions.

By interacting with us on LinkedIn, you agree to these External Terms of Use, our Social Media Terms of Use, which applies to all Ontario Teachers’ social media websites, pages or accounts (“sites”), and to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as set out in our Privacy Notices.

Ontario Teachers’ generally monitors its LinkedIn account during regular business hours. We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium; however, our moderation capabilities are not. We may not see every inappropriate comment right away (if at all), and we place trust in the maturity of our community to avoid and ignore personal attacks and negative speech, and to participate politely and constructively.

The views of users commenting on our LinkedIn account do not necessarily represent the views of Ontario Teachers’. We are not responsible for any online information that is not posted by the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan LinkedIn account. Information on Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account is made available to you for your independent use and is not intended to provide you with benefits, insurance, retirement or investment advice. We cannot and do not guarantee the applicability or accuracy of the information found on the Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account, with regard to your individual circumstances.

Ontario Teachers’ is not responsible for any direct or indirect damages relating to errors, omissions or discrepancies on its LinkedIn account.

Among other things, Ontario Teachers’:

  1. may review posts and messages, but may not reply to and/or moderate all discussion on its LinkedIn account. Being followed by us does not imply endorsement of any kind.  
  2. may occasionally post third party content that we deem of interest to our audience. These posts should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the originator, the content of the post or of any organization the post refers to.
  3. reserves the right to block users, or delete, edit or report their posts and messages, for any reason, including posts and messages that:
  • express racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting, or life-threatening messages;
  • are aggressive, coarse, violent, obscene, or pornographic in tone;
  • are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or otherwise abusive;
  • appear to not be sent by the named author;
  • contain personal or confidential information;
  • are put forward for advertising purposes;
  • are written in a language other than English or French;
  • are unintelligible, or otherwise inconsistent with the purposes of Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account;
  • are repetitive or spamming of threads;
  • link to non-Ontario Teachers’ sites;
  • to our knowledge, infringe on intellectual property rights; or
  • are otherwise illegal or violate Ontario Teachers’ policies.

Posts or messages that relate to possible criminal activity may be forwarded to law enforcement authorities.

Disagreements and constructive arguments are welcome as part of the discussions; however, inappropriate, abusive, discriminatory, offensive or unlawful comments are prohibited and may be deleted.

Use or reliance on content or materials posted via Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account or obtained by you through Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account is at your own risk. Ontario Teachers’ does not represent or warrant that its LinkedIn account will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected or that the website is free of viruses or other harmful code, nor does Ontario Teachers’ represent or warrant the correctness, accuracy, timeliness, reliability or appropriateness of the content contained in its LinkedIn account or that the content is free of viruses or other harmful code.

You accept responsibility for the content posted on the Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account, including that the content does not infringe any third-party rights, including their intellectual property or privacy rights.

Ontario Teachers’ and its employees, agents and contractors will not be responsible or liable for any damages, whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or other damages in any way arising out of or in connection with its LinkedIn account, including its content.

Privacy

When you interact with us on social media, we may collect, use or disclose your information as described in our Privacy Notices. Your information will be treated as a “Website Visitor” under our Privacy Notices unless you are a “Plan Member”, “Job Applicant”, or “Potential Candidate” as defined in those Notices.

Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account is publicly accessible. Your posts may be publicly visible, depending on your privacy settings. Ontario Teachers’ is not responsible for any personal or confidential information posted by members of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan or other individuals using our social media sites, including on LinkedIn. Ontario Teachers’ may remove posts that contain personal or confidential information, but Ontario Teachers’ is neither responsible for doing so, nor is it responsible for any damages caused by any delay or failure to remove such posts. Individuals who communicate personal or confidential information when using or interacting with our social media sites, including those on LinkedIn, do so at their own risk.

To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, Ontario Teachers’ suggests that you limit or not include any personal information, including phone numbers, email addresses or other sensitive information, on your LinkedIn account or any content you post on LinkedIn.

Any content you post to Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account is not confidential and may be used and reproduced by Ontario Teachers’ without compensation or acknowledgement to you. By posting content on Ontario Teachers’ LinkedIn account, you are consenting to Ontario Teachers’ collection, use and retention of the information by Ontario Teachers’, for any purpose, including to respond to posts and messages, and to operate, maintain and improve its social media services.

Linking

Ontario Teachers’ may link to third party websites for convenience or informational purposes. By providing links to other websites, Ontario Teachers’ does not imply endorsement of a website’s sponsor or content, nor does Ontario Teachers’ imply endorsement of any product, service or activity offered on the websites or by any advertiser on the sites.

External Social Media Platforms

The external social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn) on which the Ontario Teachers’ social media sites are located are operated by third parties and any interaction or information shared on LinkedIn may be subject to the platform’s own terms, conditions, and privacy practices. When using Ontario Teachers’ social media sites, you should exercise caution by carefully reviewing your privacy and account settings for the external social media platform. We also encourage you to read the terms of use and privacy guidelines and policies of the external social media platform.

Response Time

Although we realize social media is a 24/7 communication channel, Ontario Teachers’ will post content and review comments on its social media sites during regular business hours, Eastern Time.  Comments that are posted after hours and on weekends or holidays will be reviewed as soon as possible; this may mean the next business day. Under no circumstances will Ontario Teachers’ be held liable for any failure to respond, or failure to respond within any given time period.
