Governance Comment: Teachers' annual review of emerging issues

(January 30, 2012): In recognition of its global investment portfolio and differing national issues related to corporate governance, this year Teachers’ distributed letters to public companies specific to Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. A total of 665 letters were sent and each re-affirmed independence and accountability as key attributes of well-functioning boards everywhere. In addition to providing perspectives on significant issues for 2012, such as executive compensation and shareholder democracy, the letters invite discussion on how effective capital allocation and the creation of shareholder value should be goals of the governance process.
