Our Long-Term Equities investment strategy is focused on direct investments that have steady cash flow and growth potential over a long-term horizon and a low to moderate level of risk. We will select investments that are expected to hold their value and allow the pension plan to hedge against changes in inflation.
A hybrid portfolio, long-term equity investments fall into two categories:
- Full or majority ownership of private companies
- Large or majority positions in public companies
We characterize these investments as long-term equity assets because our goal is to hold our position in a company for 10 years or more.
We look for companies that are market leaders with sustainable competitive advantage or have strong positions in markets with positive macro trends. These companies must also have demonstrated consistent performance over many years.
As a significant shareholder or sole owner we work actively with the board and management of portfolio companies, and provide the necessary financial support to develop strategies and policies that will build the business and create long-term value.
