Being part of a pension fund makes us different. It gives us – and our partners – the flexibility to create value over different time frames. Our focus is on long-term value creation, not on short-term trading profits.
We are also free from constraints that often restrict the amount typical private equity firms can invest in any one company or opportunity.
We are a direct investor that seeks out opportunities to partner with management and provide the financial support to grow their business over the long term. We have a significant international presence and transaction experience.
Why you should make Teachers' Private Capital your first call:
Long-term investor. Patient capital.
We are a long-term investor with no fixed timetable for realization. We offer companies flexible, long-term capital and the opportunity to grow over a long time frame. It gives management the chance to achieve their strategic goals without undue pressure for short-term financial results.
Direct investor
We focus on direct investments. In fact, this type of investment represents close to half our portfolio.
We look for industry-leading, well-managed companies with strong brands and growth prospects. We can act as a lead investor and underwriter, or financial co-investor with like-minded partners, or we can provide financing for the entire capital structure. We also invest in public companies.
We shift our investment focus depending on market conditions. Our portfolio includes General Nutrition Centers, Inc., Alliance Laundry Systems, Exal Group, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Canada Guaranty Mortgage Insurance Company, Simmons Bedding Company, National Bedding (Serta), Acorn Care and Education Ltd. and Alexander Forbes.
Partner with management
As a direct investor, we provide the financial and strategic support to help good companies become great. We take a collaborative approach, partnering with management to focus on the key drivers of value during our ownership period.
Financial support
Backed by a $107.5-billion pension fund, we have the capacity and skills to finance sizeable transactions and frequently offer additional rounds of financing. In some cases, we can meet a company’s debt and equity needs under one roof by partnering with other groups within Teachers’.
Global perspective
We have a global portfolio, putting capital to work all over the world. With offices in Toronto, London and New York, we have enhanced access to international private equity opportunities.
Our team in Toronto has sector expertise in specific industries. We have a successful track record and we offer the knowledge and platform to support global expansion strategies. In addition, we have established more than 20 core strategic relationships with fund partners around the globe, enabling us to leverage our resources with our partners in markets we could not easily access directly.
Our team based in London focuses on Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with particular interest in the U.K., Benelux and Nordic Europe.
