Andrew Claerhout
Vice-President

Andrew Claerhout heads the consumer, retail, and industrials group for Teachers' Private Capital and is also responsible for the London office.

He joined Teachers' in 2005 from EdgeStone Capital Partners. Previously, Andrew worked at Pacific Equity Partners in Australia and Bain & Company in Canada and in Hong Kong.

Andrew has been involved in a number of private equity transactions across various industries while at Teachers’ Private Capital and currently sits on the board of AOT Bedding (Serta), Easton-Bell Sports, EXAL Group, General Nutrition Centers (GNC), Munchkin and Simmons Bedding Company.

Andrew received an HBA degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, completed the Stanford Executive Program, and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

 

Russell Hammond
Director
Russell Hammond joined Teachers’ Private Capital in 2006 with more than 10 years of investment banking and private equity experience. Most recently, he was a director in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse, and was previously a director at Merrill Lynch, having worked in its investment banking and private equity groups in Toronto and London, England.

At Teachers’, Russell has been involved in the acquisitions of Aquilex, CTVglobemedia and EXAL Group and currently sits on the boards of Aquilex and EXAL.

Russell graduated as a Presidential Scholar with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and is a CFA charterholder.

 
Romeo Leemrijse
Romeo Leemrijse
Director
Romeo joined Teachers’ in 2006 and has been involved in a number of direct investments at Teachers’, including the acquisitions of Simmons Bedding Company, Intelsat and Select Service Partners. Romeo sits on the boards of Simmons Bedding Company, National Bedding (Serta) and GNC.

Previously as a principal at EdgeStone Capital Partners, he was responsible for sourcing and executing investments, as well as monitoring and providing strategic guidance to portfolio companies. Prior to EdgeStone, he was a senior analyst with Dominion Bond Rating Service and spent six years at CIBC World Markets focusing on the energy and real estate sectors where he worked on a number of advisory and equity and debt financing transactions.

Romeo received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary and is a CFA Charterholder.

 

Roman Duch
Portfolio Manager
Roman Duch joined Teachers’ Private Capital in 2007. Roman is actively involved with Teachers’ investment in General Nutrition Centers and sits as an observer on its Board. Prior to Teachers’, Roman’s work experience spanned progressive roles in M&A, investment banking and corporate development. Roman brings over 10 years of experience to Teachers’ gained in both an advisory (Rothschild, Merrill Lynch) and corporate (Cosmetica Laboratories, Symcor) setting.

Roman is a graduate of the Honours Business Administration and MBA programs at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

 

Kevin Mansfield
Portfolio Manager

Kevin Mansfield joined Teachers’ Private Capital in 2005. He has been involved in a number of Teachers’ investments, including Munchkin, Easton-Bell Sports, Osprey Media and GCAN. He currently serves on the board for Munchkin and Easton-Bell Sports. Previously, Kevin worked at Scotia Merchant Capital, the private equity arm of the Bank of Nova Scotia.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a CFA charterholder.

 

Jeff Markusson
Portfolio Manager
Jeff Markusson joined Teachers’ Private Capital in 2006. He has been involved in a number of transactions including the acquisitions of Arclin, Aquilex and EXAL Group and currently serves on EXAL’s board. Previously, Jeff worked at CIBC World Markets for a number of years in both its mergers and acquisitions group and its Vancouver office.

He holds a BA (Economics) from Simon Fraser University and an MBA from the University of Toronto, where he graduated as a Gold Medalist.

 

Raymond Shiu
Portfolio Manager
Since joining Teachers’ in 2005, Raymond Shiu has been involved in a number of transactions, including the acquisitions of New Zealand Yellow Pages and Serta, and investments in Grupo Corporativo Ono, Valentino Fashion Group and Idea Cellular. He also participated in the formation of FountainVest and Park Square, mezzanine and investment funds. Previously, Raymond worked at RBC Capital Markets.

Raymond earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

 

Robert Fine
Associate

Robert Fine joined Teachers’ Private Capital in 2010. He is involved with Teachers’ investments in Serta, Simmons, Exal and Easton-Bell Sports. Previously, he worked in investment banking in the mining group at Cormark Securities and the TMT group at Citigroup. Robert earned an Honours International Bachelor of Business Administration (with Distinction) from the Schulich School of Business at York University and is a CFA charterholder.

 

Ira Shiner
Senior Investment Analyst
Ira Shiner joined Teachers’ Private Capital in 2011. Previously, he worked at Kensington Capital Partners Limited and the Real Estate Investment Banking group of CIBC World Markets. Ira earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (with Distinction) from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He has passed all three levels of the CFA Program and will be eligible for the CFA designation upon completion of the required work experience.
