Our Long-Term Equities team is focused on direct investments that have steady cash flow and growth potential over a long-term horizon and a low to moderate level of risk. We select investments that are expected to provide a stream of income while holding and growing their value relative to inflation.
Long-term equity investments fall into two categories:
- Full or majority ownership of private companies
- Large or control positions in public companies
Our goal is to hold our position in a company for 10 years or more.
We look for companies that are market leaders that have a sustainable competitive advantage, or have strong positions in markets with positive macro trends. These companies typically have demonstrated consistent performance over many years.
Our first acquisition in this portfolio occurred in 2010. We acquired 100% of Camelot Group PLC., a global lottery operator that holds the exclusive license to operate the UK National Lottery until 2019.
We are also actively building a position in the seniors housing industry through our wholly-owned subsidiary, BayBridge Seniors Housing. BayBridge’s portfolio includes seniors homes in Canada and the United States.
As active investors, we work with the board and management of portfolio companies to develop strategies and policies that will build the business, and we are able to provide the necessary financial support through additional investments to create long-term value.
