Q&A: Co-op and Summer Students
1. How do I apply?
All co-op and summer internship positions are posted at your university’s career centre approximately four months prior to the start of the work term. Check your centre for details and apply directly through your career centre.
2. When should I apply?
Apply through your university career centre to available positions.
- For the winter term, we accept resumes in September. Offers are sent in October. Placements begin in January.
- For the summer term, we accept resumes in January and send offers in February and March. Placements begin in early May.
- For the fall term, we accept resumes in May and send offers in June. Placements begin in early September.
3. How many students do you hire every year?
We hire more than 100 summer and co-op students every year from IT, business, finance and math programs. We hire from all Canadian universities.
4. What kinds of jobs do co-op students get?
We hire for a range of positions: IT programmer analysts and software developers, investment analysts, finance analysts, and the trading room.
5. Do you hire for all terms?
Yes. Students typically work four-month terms from January to April, May to August, or September to December.
6. Do you hire graduate students too?
Yes, usually for four-month terms but occasionally for longer internships (8-12 months) depending on students’ program requirements and availability. We hire graduate students from MBA, IT, math and science and other programs.
7. What are the requirements?
Students must be:
- currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate university program
- returning to school at the end of the work term or internship
- able to demonstrate academic achievement
- successful working independently and as part of a team
- involved in their communities and able to demonstrate leadership skills
8. Do I have to come to Toronto for an interview? Will you reimburse travel costs?
Depending on the number of candidates we’re interviewing, we will either interview at your university or bring you to Toronto for an interview. We do not pay students’ travel costs.
9. How much are co-op students paid? Do you offer benefits?
Students receive competitive pay based on an hourly rate and paid biweekly. We do not offer benefits to students or other contract employees.
10. Will you pay for my living expenses in Toronto?
No. Students are expected to pay their own living expenses.
