  Board Appointments
TORONTO (January 14, 2005): Ontario Teachers’ Federation President, Jim McQueen is pleased to announce, on behalf of the OTF Executive and Board of Governors, the appointment of Eileen Mercier and Carol Stephenson to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP).

From 1995 to 2003, Eileen Mercier was the president of her own management consulting firm, Finvoy Management, specializing in financial strategy and corporate governance issues. Prior to that time, she spent 25 years in the financial services, communications, integrated oil and forest products businesses, culminating in her position as Sr. Vice-President and CFO at Abitibi-Price. She holds an MBA from York University and an MA from the University of Alberta, is bilingual, and a member of the Board of Directors of several corporations and charitable associations.

Carol Stephenson is the Dean of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto and has also studied at Harvard University and the University of California. Stephenson has a more than 30-year career in diverse fields including holding the position of President and CEO of Stentor Resouce Centre Inc. and Lucent Technologies Canada. She has also been an executive at Bell Canada.

“We welcome these capable and experienced people as our part of the Board of OTPP”, McQueen said. “The teachers of Ontario can be confident their interests will continue to be well represented at the Board of Directors.”

The appointments are effective January 1, 2005 and follow a nationwide search by OTF.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is jointly sponsored by OTF and the Government of Ontario. Each Partner names four people to the Board of Directors, and jointly names the Chair. Directors serve for two years renewable to a maximum of eight years.

Mercier and Stephenson replace Lucy Greene and Ann Finlayson who have completed the maximum term as appointees to the Board from OTF. McQueen thanks both these women for their service to the teachers of Ontario. Still serving are Guy Matte and Gary Porter.

The Ontario Teachers’ Federation represents 144,000 full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in the publicly funded public, Catholic and francophone schools in Ontario.
